Description
This is a photo of an apple blossom taken at late dawn before the dew had a chance to melt. The shade of the tree’s leaves ensured that the dew on this blossom did not evaporate until later in the morning, when all others were well on their way to drying. Water droplets always add a sense of luscious vitality to a photo, and are a common element in nature photography, especially floral photographs. They work well with plant photos because they are a vital ingredient in the sustenance of the plant, and their presence implies that this particular plant is well nourished and will be able to thrive in the future. It follows from this that there is hope for the plant, and in this case, hope for the blossom and its eventual apple, which will seed and hopefully be born into its own fruitful apple tree. Thus, adding water into a shot like this can impart a sense of optimistic reverie in the observer. This photo was taken with my Nikon D200 and my Sigma 30-700mm macro zoom lens. As usual, the lens was at maximum focusing distance, wide aperture, 100 ISO, and set at a slow shutter speed while mounted on a tripod.
