Description
This is a close-up photograph of a Hibiscus flower I took in my cousin Robin’s backyard when we lived together in a condo on Moodie Drive, Ottawa, ON. It was taken using my Nikon D200 with my Sigma DC 18-50mm EX Macro lens at longest focal length and closest focusing distance. I kept my aperture wide open for low depth of field to create the larger than life feel and underexposed the photo by about 1 and 1/2 stops in order to blacken the background. I took this in RAW format and boosted colour saturation and vibrancy in photoshop, as is quite necessary with these TIFF images, as the sensors can only record raw light values. It’s up to you to let the computer understand, in much the same way that chemicals translate the arrangement of electrons in sodium bromide molecules on colour negative film, what the 1′s and 0′s mean that the image sensors in your camera record.
