Description
In all honesty, I took this photograph for a friend because she told me that her favourite colour was green. By manipulating depth-of-field and choosing an appropriate background, one can create a wondrous, lush green backdrop for any photograph. Many of my florals have such a background. In order to be able to create this, though, you need to develop the ability to see the elements of a background in your composition as they will appear when very obscured and blurred. Sometimes it helps to unfocus your eyes, but this isn’t always enough. What is added to this is proper exposure, for sometimes you must underexpose a shot by a stop or two in order to correctly capture the green you are looking for in all its deep vibrancy. To develop this sense, there is no other way except to go out and practice, fail, retry, fail, and retry again. Don’t give up! Keep going after the image in your mind until you get it! Nothing worthwhile in photography comes cheaply, and the most cherished techniques will always cost you a bit of sweat, wasted patience and heartache before the big reward!
