Autopator’s Secret
This is a shot of a small section of the famous fall foliage of Gatineau Provincial Park. I took it using my Sigma 70-300mm zoom lens at 90mm focal length, 1/60 shutter speed, and f/8 aperture.
Caterpillar Nest at Sunset
I took this shot at sunset, hence the golden glow to the caterpillar and the background.
Day Lilly VII
This is a photograph of a Lilly, one of seven such photographs.
Female Red Crossbill
This is a photograph of a female Red Crossbill taken in the winter of 2008.
Long-Horned Beetle
Insects are very tricky to photograph in the wild: tripods are necessary in order to utilize the correct shutter speed, yet the odd placing of most bugs prevents the use of such.
Milkweed Buds
This is a close-up of a batch of milkweed buds on a luminescent summer day. I took this on 400 ISO print film using my 135mm Nikon lens with a +2 dioptics Vivitar close-up filter. The glowing aura of the leaves is caused by chromatic aberration, or colour bleeding.
One Winter's Dawn
In the frozen calm of a mid-winter dawn, after mounting my camera on the tripod and getting all my gear ready, I walk briskly across my driveway and into the southwest corner of the yard.
Rose and Carnation
This is a photo of a rose in the foreground and a white carnation in the background. It was taken using my Sigma 70-300mm at about 200mm zoom and near its closest focusing distance.
Rose Portal
This is a photograph of a rose taken straight on. I took it indoors, but the light source is overcast sunlight streaming in through a glass sliding patio door that was closed.
The Dead Wood
This photograph is from Panannick Hill, one of a towering, ridge-like series that forms the nest around Ballater, Scotland. An hour from now and a surprise blizzard will have covered the whole area in snow, hills and valley alike, whiting out everything.
The River Acheron
A great rusted chain hangs loosely across the gap of stiff metal bars that border the concrete of the Oxford Mills dam. A cheap hand-painted “No Trespassing” sign feebly holds to the chain by worn and weathered string.
Wild Cherries
On an overcast day, the grey hue of the damp bark subdued everything in the background. What’s more, the overcast sky allowed for much more vivid colour saturation.
