Soma-Sema Creative Photography features the artistic works of Dan Baxter.

You will find a range of different types of images, from macro to landscape, architecture to nature, plant life to wildlife, flora and fauna, along with information about the setting, equipment, type of film (if used), and exposure.

All photographs except portraits can be purchased online using Paypal’s secure online checkout, and can be tailored to suit your needs. All products are provided matted and signed. For purchase information, please contact Dan Baxter.  Framing options can be made available upon special request, but is not always a guaranteed service of this site.

However, this site is intended for three purposes:  the first purpose of Soma-Sema Creative Photography is to help budding amateurs from whatever background at whatever stage of development to build their repertoire of techniques, knowledge and skills.  I would like this site to be as interactive as possible, so feel free to shoot me any kidns of questions you may have, either by posting them or contacting me more privately if that is your preference (for the shy ones out there).  We should all reach out for guidance when we are starting out, learn as much as we can from diverse people who can help us in our endeavour to better ourselves as photographers.  I have had experience in all types of photography, and even though you will mostly see nature photography posted on this site, I have had experience in commercial photography, modelling and studio photography, sports, wedding, portraiture, virtually all forms of photographic pursuit.  So, even if your question does not purtain specifically to any of my own photographs, I want to be able to help you figure out how to take the photographs that you see in your mind and that you want to take.  And I promise, if I don’t know the answer, I will find it for you!

The second purpose is to educate viewers on a wide variety of subject matter and to try and stimulate some intellectual thought, hopefully even a little bit of discussion, too.  This site has been put up in a new photoblog format so that people may respond to photos and ask questions.  It is meant to be interactive!  You will find in the writing beside almost every photo either something about the techniques and equipment I used to capture the image, and usually there is also some discussion about a topic that relates to the photograph.  Perhaps it’s what inspired me to take the photo, or it can also be what the photo inspired me to talk about after thoroughly examined it.  There are many links throughout this site to outside sites that provide greater detail on many topics ranging from conservation tactics, astronomy and physics, psychology, greek mythology, wildlife, and more!  Peruse them as much as you can and I’m sure you’ll find something new to learn both about photography and the world around you.  As a nature photographer, your knowledge of the world, no matter what area that knowledge is in, will always be one of the most valuable assets you have as a photographer.  Put in another way: dumb people will not take smart photographs.

The third purpose of Soma-Sema Creative Photography is, of course, to sell my own photographs to whoever would like their own copy for their home, office, to give as a gift, or for whatever purpose (except resale, naturally).  I will do my best to make sure they are affordable and that they are delivered with as much swift speed as possible!
